Colectivo Jafet
Preserving Tradition and Innovation in Capula's Clay
Nestled in the heart of Capula, Michoacán, Mexico, Colectivo Jafet stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of pottery craftsmanship. For 40 years, the Leal family has poured their hearts and souls into shaping the clay, breathing life into unique and functional pieces that embody the essence of Capula's rich heritage.
María Inés Leal García, the second-generation artisan at the helm of Colectivo Jafet, carries the torch of tradition ignited by her parents. Since the tender age of 6 or 7, she has been immersed in the art of pottery, absorbing the techniques and intricacies that have become the very fabric of her being.
In 1996 or 1998, a new chapter unfolded for Colectivo Jafet as they embraced the innovative world of processed ceramics. This newfound expertise, coupled with María Inés's unwavering pursuit of innovation, paved the way for a distinctive style that blends utility and artistry.
