Colectivo Tejido Amuzgo
A Legacy of Textile Tradition
In the heart of San Pedro Amuzgos, Oaxaca, amidst the vibrant tapestry of Amuzgo culture, resides Colectivo Amuzgo – Carmen, a beacon of traditional textile artistry. At the helm stands Carmela Merino Morales, a passionate advocate for preserving the exquisite craftsmanship of her ancestors.
Carmela's journey with Amuzgo textiles began in her childhood, surrounded by the rhythmic hum of looms and the vibrant hues of hand-woven fabrics. Though she didn't pursue the art of weaving, her connection to textiles remained strong. In 2012, driven by a desire to honor her heritage and support fellow artisans, she founded Merino Tejido Amuzgo, an online platform dedicated to showcasing the beauty and diversity of Amuzgo textiles.
Colectivo Amuzgo – Carmen is more than just a business; it's a celebration of cultural identity. Each piece, meticulously crafted by hand, carries the essence of Amuzgo traditions, beliefs, and stories. From the intricate patterns woven into the fabric to the vibrant embroidery adorning each garment, these textiles are a testament to the enduring spirit of Amuzgo craftsmanship.
