Colectivo Camixa
TIMELESS EMBROIDERY WITH ANCESTRAL VISIONS FROM WOMEN OF PUEBLA

Colectivo Camixa is a group of women artisans from Naupan in the Sierra Norte of Puebla, Mexico. Founded in 2008, the collective was created with the purpose of preserving and sharing the region’s rich hand-embroidery traditions. Their name, Camixa, comes from the Náhuatl adaptation of the Spanish word camisa (shirt), honoring both language and heritage.
Working with cotton manta, the artisans create blouses that reflect the beauty and identity of Puebla. Each piece is embroidered by hand using ancestral techniques passed down through generations. Many of the women learned to embroider from their mothers, grandmothers, or other members of their community, continuing a tradition rooted in family and cultural pride.
Their designs feature detailed brocades made with pepenado and ilbanado embroidery, often paired with soft ruffles and elegant silhouettes. The intricate work requires patience and precision, and a single blouse can take more than two weeks to complete.
Through every stitch, Colectivo Camixa preserves the stories, skills, and timeless artistry of Puebla’s embroidery traditions.
