Wixárika art comes from the Wixárika (Huichol) people, an Indigenous community living in the Sierra Madre Occidental across the states of San Luis Potosí, Nayarit, Jalisco, Zacatecas, and Durango. Their art is known for its vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and deep spiritual meaning. Every piece tells a story, reflecting their beliefs, traditions, and strong connection to nature and the spirit world. Two of the most recognized Wixárika techniques are chaquira beadwork and yarn paintings. In both processes, artisans carefully press colorful glass beads or yarn into a wooden base coated with a natural mixture of beeswax and resin. The designs are placed one by one, requiring patience, precision, and deep knowledge of traditional symbolism.
