From the beautiful silver region of Taxco de Alarcón, where silver craftsmanship is a magnificent traditional craft lives Colectivo Gamqui — a third-generation workshop shaped by legacy, devotion, and steady hands.
Founded by Karen’s grandfather, nurtured by her father, and now carried forward by Karen and her husband. For Karen, it feels as if she has worked with silver all her life; the workshop was never separate from life. At eight years old, she was already by her grandfather’s side — assisting, observing, and witnessing the liquid silver threads of creation.
Their work honors the ancestral technique of Cera Perdida (Lost Wax Casting) — a centuries-old method that transforms silver into stunning objects. It begins with intention: selecting molds, sculpting each wax model by hand, forming what they call the arbolito de cera — a delicate wax tree.
Once perfected and retouched, the wax is encased in refractory material and left to rest. Heat melts the wax away, leaving it hollow, the liquid silver is poured slowly at the top, flowing down every branch, filling every cavity with brilliance. After cooling, each piece is carefully cut from the tree — separated, refined, shaped, polished — until it carries that unmistakable Taxco glow.
Most pieces require over eight days to fully come to life and each step takes precision, patience, and a sacred inheritance. Making every ring, earring, form carry generations of knowledge, discipline, and love for the craft of Taxco.
