In the vibrant town of San Antonio de la Cal, the magic of tin art comes alive at Colectivo Las Mariposas. Founded by the dynamic duo Elisa and Manuel, the workshop grew from a passion nurtured from childhood, rooted in ancestral connections to the pioneering traditions of tinwork.
Together, they envisioned a creative journey of their own, opening the collective to craft pieces that are both intricate and meaningful, reflecting a living heritage. Each work is carefully cut, chiselled, scored, shaped, and soldered by hand, transforming a simple sheet of metal into a luminous testament to Oaxacan artistry.
The workshop now hums with the energy of 3 to 8 artisans, each contributing their creativity and skill to the collective. Every piece carries the love and joy of the process, echoing the philosophy of Elisa and Manuel: “You must enjoy every part of the process to truly create.”
From delicate ornaments to bold sculptural forms, Colectivo Las Mariposas captures the elegance, precision, and imagination of tin artistry. Each creation is a reflection of the artisans’ lives—intricate, vibrant, and alive—offering a glimpse into the heart of Oaxaca’s living traditions.
