Colectivo Luna
EMBROIDERING CONNECTIONS TO HOME AND BELONGING
With 13 years of experience, Colectivo Luna works with delicate hand-embroidered techniques and textile creations. Making unique floral designs, each stitch is a showcase of vibrant colors and intricate embroidery devoted to the rich textile traditions of Chiapas, Mexico. The workshop is run by a mother and her children, learning everything from their elder, grandmother and mother-in-law. The essential teachings were a significant part of developing their skills, and cultivating a deep love for artisanal work. Over time each member has developed their own personal touches emphasizing the work to come bold with life and blending tradition with masterful artistry.
Each member is dedicated to specific tasks throughout the process, a collaborative effort consisting of cutting, embroidery edges, drawing designs, connecting textiles, or choosing colors. Each design is specially hand drawn first, adding the necessary and precise by hand creates a unique texture and brilliant depth. They all sit together for the last beautiful touches, hand-embroidery everything together as a family and inspire each other with their works of arts.
The workshop is inside their house, creating pieces that have strong connections to home, belonging, landscapes and cultural traditions. Colectivo Luna is grateful for their elders and community who has taught them the delicacy of creating. They all find great joy in creating these incredible pieces and practice daily their techniques, making these textiles full of sacredness and delight.
