DREAMING THREADS IN EXPRESSIONS OF HERITAGE AND IMAGINATION

Specialization: Pedal Loom

In the heart of Oaxaca’s highlands, Xkal Dua weaves dreams into thread. A collective of Zapotec artisans from San Dionisio Ocotepec, they are dedicated to the craft of rebozos, blouses, hupiles, and gabanes on a pedal loom, working with cotton and wool in rhythms inherited from ancestors. Every textile carries the memory of the land—colors born from natural dyes and traditions that speak of time and place.

Xkal Dua, meaning “Dreams of Thread” in Zapotec, embodies the collective’s vision: pieces that are more than garments, but expressions of heritage and imagination. Natural dyes create organic tones and deep, enigmatic hues, while hand-embroidery adds delicate lines that honor the artisan’s touch. Each creation reflects patience and devotion, a dialogue between material and spirit.

Their work celebrates ancestral knowledge while breathing life into contemporary artistry. The fabrics move with the stories of Oaxaca, holding imprints of history and craftsmanship. For Xkal Dua, every piece is made with pride and love—an enduring testament to the beauty of handmade tradition.
