Elena Felipe Félix began working with clay when she was 13 years old, learning and cultivating skills, techniques, and knowledge from her mother. At the age of fifteen, she began participating in artisanal contests and won her first award, motivating her to continue her work with ceramics. She learned new techniques and elevated her painting skills to create wonderful imagery of flowers, birds, deer, and other nature motifs.

Her passion and love for barro continued to grow as she developed her practice alongside her husband and creative partner. As husband and wife, they support one another while working with the Rama de Barro Bruñido technique, a renowned and delicate process that reveals the clay’s natural shine. Through participating in many contests, Elena is now widely recognized throughout the country and has had her name listed in books honoring the grand masters of Arte Popular in Mexico.

She has taught her entire family to work with ceramics—her ten children and even her grandchildren—whom she believes are the new generation destined to renew and keep alive the artisanal tradition of pottery. Whether making cántaros, mugs, vases, or jugs, Taller Felipe is always exploring new designs and techniques, creating a family legacy of artistry and preserving the clay’s natural brilliance for generations to come.
