Taller Solis
Preserving Ancestral Spirits and Creating New Legacies

In the Municipality of Zinapécuaro, Michoacán, Taller Solís is run by Fernando Solís, who has been working with barro for more than 40 years. The workshop began when Fernando’s parents married. He was taught by them, as they supported and guided him in developing his ceramic skills and exploring innovative ways to work with barro.
This meaningful workshop creates profound expressions of personal style, woven with beauty, innovation, and Indigenous techniques. Each ceramic piece is crafted through a unique process, highlighting distinctive characteristics and methods such as barro bruñido and negative imprint—a specialized technique that is slow and difficult, yet produces imagery unlike any other.
Taller Solís understands the importance of creating with intention, precision, and deep emotion. Six people work at the workshop, collaborating and dividing the work according to their specialties, as each artisan contributes their individual expertise to create significant and beautiful artistic pieces. Taller Solís’ ceramics embody a powerful spirit rooted in ancestral connections to material, process, storytelling, and creative sensibility—preserving the past while blending seamlessly with the contemporary world.
