From the state of Jalisco, Mexico, Colectivo Xurabe is a family and community of artisans dedicated to keeping Wixárika artistic traditions alive through generations of making. For more than 20 years, this collective has worked with traditional Wixárika techniques, yarn, and chaquira beadwork. What began within a family raised by a single mother grew into a shared practice between brothers, their wives, and friends.

Art became a way to stay connected, support one another and open opportunities. Friends and community members helped teach the brothers the techniques needed to create these intricate works, allowing them to continue practices that hold deep significance within Wixárika culture.

The colors, patterns, materials, and symbols come together slowly, transforming hours of careful labor into objects that carry a sense of presence and spiritual expression.

The work of Colectivo Xurabe are reflections of their experiences, their identities, sacrifices, culture, obstacles, and determination. There have been closed doors, hunger, uncertainty, and many difficulties along the way, but these challenges have never stopped them from creating.
