Colectivo Las Flores de los Zarate
THE WEAVING OF ANCESTRY AND BEAUTY

Nestled in San Felipe Jalapa de Díaz, Oaxaca, Colectivo Las Flores de los Zaretes is a vibrant collective of 30 artisans led by Adelina Suárez, dedicated to preserving and honoring the rich embroidery traditions passed down through generations. Rooted in her mother Antonia Suárez and grandmother’s teachings, Adelina has spent over 40 years mastering artisanal textiles and continuing the ancestral Palmita embroidery techniques, known for their openwork cross-stitching that brings depth and character to traditional motifs.
The collective’s expertise lies in creating huipiles adorned with bold, colorful designs of birds, flowers, and other natural iconography. Using manta, a breathable and comfortable cotton fabric, each piece takes one to two months to complete, reflecting the meticulous care and time-honored techniques of the artisans. Work is deeply collaborative: one artisan cuts the fabric, another selects the designs, and another brings the embroidery to life, uniting their skills into a single harmonious creation.
The huipiles produced by Colectivo Las Flores de los Zaretes are more than garments—they are living expressions of cultural identity. Each piece celebrates the artistry of Oaxacan craftsmanship, connecting heritage and contemporary elegance, and offering anyone who wears them a tangible connection to generations of vibrant tradition.
